Malawi’s First Lady Gertrude Mutharika says church ministers’ wives are their husband’s co-workers; hence, should be fully involved in ministering.

Mutharika made the observation recently when she opened a three-day Blantyre Synod Ministers Wives Association (MWA) conference of the Church of the Central African Presbytery (CCAP).

“You deal with problems that your husbands handle. You have to be spiritually filled because church members expect a lot from you.

“Consider yourselves lucky. There are so many out there, but God chose you. This is no mean achievement. Respect your husbands and thank God for it,” she said.

Association chairperson Shamim Gama took the opportunity to talk about financial challenges the women face.

“We face so many challenges, among them mobility when we visit widows and day-to-day running of the association,” said Gama.

Alice Maulana, wife of the synod general secretary said MWA members benefit from the conference through the exchange of ideas.

The conference was also attended by MWA members of Livingstonia and Nkhoma synods.
